Top tips to prepare for your interview at LV= General Insurance

Interviews. They sound scary, but at LV= GI we like to think we handle them a bit differently. We want you to do well, so we’ll give you every opportunity to shine throughout the process. And we’ll always be clear on what to expect when we first talk to you – so there’s no need to worry about what’s in-store. To help you feel as prepared as possible, we’ve pulled together a few top tips with all the information you need to wow us on the day.

What to expect from the interview

Most of our interviews are competency based. That means you’ll need to be ready to talk about your experiences to show us how you’ve dealt with certain situations in the past. If that sounds scary, don’t worry – it really isn’t. Start thinking about examples of when you’ve previously demonstrated skills and behaviours required for the role and have these ready in-mind for the day. It’s definitely a good idea to take a look through our history  and our current offering too, so you’ve got a really good understanding of what we actually do – and the role you’ll be required to play as part of our team – before we meet.

What we value

Here at LV= GI, values are more than just a box-ticking exercise. They’re the driving force behind our culture and they underpin everything we do as individuals and as a business. So naturally, we want everyone who works for us to believe in them, too. That’s why, when it comes to your interview, we’ll ask you to demonstrate how you embody our values in your day-to-day life. It’s all part of making sure you’re the right fit for us and we’re the right fit for you.

Below are our company values. To help you ace your interview, you should come up with examples that demonstrate how you’ve embodied these values in the past. It can be a work-related example, or something from your personal life – we don’t mind.

Be brave

Think about examples of:
•    How you’ve gone above and beyond to do the right thing
•    Times where you’ve been bold and just gone for it!
•    Challenges you’ve faced head-on and how you’ve overcome them

Inspire trust

Think about examples of:
•    How you’ve proven to be credible and reliable in the past
•    Times where you’ve been straight-up and honest to deliver the best result
•    How you’ve empowered and encouraged others to be their best

With heart

Think about examples of:
•    How you’ve made a difference, in a positive way, to a situation
•    Times where you’ve shown passion and pride in what you do
•    Your friendly and caring nature

Everyone counts

Think about examples of:
•    How you’re always true to yourself and how you show respect to others through your actions
•    When you’ve been a great team-player
•    Times where you’ve worked with others to achieve a better result

Plan, prepare, practice

From your journey to your outfit – planning everything you can in advance is a great way to help you feel calmer in the lead up to the interview.

•    Use example questions to prepare your interview answers and practice, practice, practice. Writing everything out and making sure it relates to your CV is a useful exercise, too. You’re less likely to panic and need to improvise in the interview as you’ll naturally recall what you wrote earlier.

•    We want you to feel comfortable during your interview, but that doesn’t mean wearing a t-shirt and jeans is the best idea. Stick to the smarter end of smart-casual and you’ll be fine.

•    The last thing you want is to get lost on the way to your interview. So make sure you’ve got your route sorted in advance – and give it a test-run so you’re comfortable with timings. There’s nothing worse than running late and turning up stressed.

Any questions?

If you follow the tips above, you’ll be more than prepared to nail your interview with us. But the most important thing is to make sure you show passion and energy during the interview. Because aside from all your skills and experiences, we want to know you really want the job, and the best way you can do this is to show us your enthusiasm for the role and LV= GI.

And remember, it’s a two-way street. So if you’ve got any questions for us along the way, we’d love the chance to answer them for you.

Good luck – we can’t wait to meet you!
